I need some assistance dressing for a job interview?

I'm getting my first job in the corporate world, I've always had industrial jobs that didn't really require "fashion sense". I'm new to this whole tie-and-collar thing as well, the outfit I'm leaning towards is a black shirt, tan slacks, black and gray striped shirt, black belt and black shoes, would this be appropriate for a job interview or what? Any advice would be awesome!
I mean black and gray striped TIE. It's silk and the stripes are about half an inch thick.

My business professor gave us an idea on the appropriate dressing--

You always want to dress about the same, if not better than the ones that you will be seeing.
This can go for anything from job interviews to presentations to appointments--
You should have a feel of the company by the time you go for an interview, so if they all wear nice shirt and nice slacks, you should AT LEAST wear that, if not better like a tie and a suit.
