Is it safe to leave a space heater on all night....on your bed?

I live in a very cold state and need to use a space heater to stay warm in the colder months. I have it on all night on my bed, and it is plugged in. It has an auto-feature, so it turns off automatically if it overheats, but I've had this thing for over a year...it is working really well. However, is it safe to do this??
