Can the tanning bed hurt my eyes?

I wear dark goggles in the tanning bed and sometimes even a towel on top of that. But since I have been going I noticed my eye sight it is getting a little bad. Could it be from the tanning bed? I also got out one day and my eyes were blood shot, but it went away after an hour or two. Is this bad?
