Can oily proned skin skip sunblock?

I know that everybody no matter what ethnicity can wear sunblock, but I have oily skin, and even oil-free matte sunblock still makes my face shiny. I know its a healthy thing to protect the skin from the sun by what we eat and how we care for our skin. I'm really thinking about quitting sun screen/block. Along with the heat, I feel like its helping me produce more oil on my skin. Its really getting on my nerves!
