   My dear Jewaira,

   Today we had a dry, sunny day, without a cloud in the sky. A rarity even during summer here. Rain is a given. As a child I loved to play football when the rain fell. As an adult athlete, running through the rain was sheer joy. As a climber and hill walker, rain was something ever present. it soaked my clothes, my boots, and horrifyingly enough, the physics and chemistry notes I had forgotten to take out of my rucksack before climbing the peaks.

   We take it all for granted. We always have water, pouring from the skies, keeping our gardens green. Keeping us cool, providing natural breaks at tennis and cricket matches through summer. 50C? Unheard of here. 25C is a too hot day. Hottest day of the year, and we get burnt if we expose our soft off-pink skins to the sun. The sun on my skin makes me itch.

   I think we are blessed with a climate that is not too cold in winter as to cause things to freeze. In summer, we might burn a couple of days a year. We smother our little children in sunblock, which we probably do not need.

   But, 50C, absurd, unheard of, who could live in that? I have seen children living in Texas, during a hot summer, dancing in the rain that has been long awaited. Splashing in puddles, luxuriating in the cooling, and the sensation of heavy drops of rain on the skin. Bliss.

   Which is why my pleasure at the prospect of rain was returned with scowls or looks of wonder as though I were depriving the locals of their summer sun. Of course too much rain can be a pain but overall it was a very pleasant summer for us weather wise especially in the UK.

   Kuwait has now entered the humid hot season which signals the transition into the cooler season (eventually)
