Why does my fake tan do this

For some reason the fake tan that I'm using now (Clarins Instant Tanning Gel) Looks good some days but bad on others. Like when i don't sleep very well i wake up and my face is very white when other times i get alot of sleep and when i wake up my face is really brown. I don't understand why this is happening its causing a big problem to me because i just want to have the same colour every day by using this fake tan and im using about the same amount of it every day. Should i use another fake tan?? Any suggestions thanks and does this happen to you? what can i do about it?
