My boyfriend is now confortable around me and has started to be honest with me about certain things he lied about at the beginning of the relationship, due to fear of me judging him and not getting to know him better. Now, I am very unconfortable with lies, even the white ones. So the lotions in the bathroom cabinet that I thought were his ex-s are not, they are his, he use to be a tanning maniac and went tanning all the time before we met and was embarassed to tell me the truth before. The military discharge was due to health problem, well NOT. Drinking problem, denied, then I had to find out the hard way so he had to quit again. There are just one thing after another and I am not confortable at this moment. Anyone has any sugestions or comments regarding such a situation? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I agree with you. Lying is lying. It would hurt me to know the person I am in a relationship with has been lying to me from the start. It would also make me question what else he has been lying about, and if he is still lying about things. For that matter, is he going to lie to me in the future about things he is uncomfortable with?
I would suggest that you sit down and tell him where the buck stops. Tell him how you feel about lying. Maybe you should tell him that he needs to be up front about everything now. Tell him you cannot tolerate it, and that if he continues to lie about anything from this point forward then the relationship is over. He also needs to understand that he has to earn your trust back.
He violated your trust, and as easy as it is for me to tell you what you could say to him, it may not be fixable. It may be that the damage is done, and no matter how much you want to fix it you can't. He has wronged you, and you have the right to feel anyway you want to. If you choose to stay with him, it's not going to rectify itself over night.
Only you can make this decision. You can either try and see if both of you can move forwards, or you can call it off right now. If you did you would have every right to. Either way I think it would help you both if you sat down together, and you told him exactly how much damage he caused. He needs to know.
If you choose to continue the relationship you need to be able to slowly put the past in the past. If you keep it as a weapon to use against him in the future, you are not being fair to him, or you. Good luck!
