cloth diaper confusion?

My husband and I decided to start looking into cloth diapering. We have another baby boy coming in 2 months and an almost 2 year old. We are tired of the cost and the trash that disposables are for just one baby and we shudder at the thought with two in diapers! My son has no interest in potty training so I wont be surprised if we have another 6 months of diapers. I think I will probably still use dispoables for the first few months on my newborn just for ease and because of the amount of changes, i don't think I will be able to keep up.
I just started looking into cloth diapers and all the options and products are over whelming. Do the one size fits all really fit a newborn? After holding up a dispsoable newborn size and a size 5 (my toddlers) I don't see how a newborn could fit unless there is a ridiculous amount of bulk! Please help me get started! Can you make your own? What type of diapers do you use (all in ones, pckets etc). Any brand suggestions! Thanks so much!

We have BumGenius all in ones, one size - which means they adjust via snaps to make them bigger, and close via velcro.

Do the one-sizes fit a newborn? - They didn't fit my son for the first month or two, but due to the horrid tar-like poos, we used disposables anyways. They do come with newborn inserts and a thicker insert for when the child gets bigger, so there isn't TOO much bulk. I knew it was time to switch inserts when those would get soaked completely each time!

There are liners for in between the baby and the diaper that catches the poo - and they are flushable, making clean up really simple. I think they are Bummi's brand.

I just used a pail with a lid and washed every 3-4 days, or as often as needed. I admit there were times I let them sit for a week - and just washed them twice and then hung them out in the sun to get rid of any staining. I washed all of them in the washer, hung the covers to dry inside, and threw the liners in the dryer. Do NOT use dyer sheets with them! I also used WonderWash detergent - be SURE to use the correct detergent! All my diapers still look and smell brand new.

I did use disposable at night due to my son being a heavy peer.
I also ended up having to switch my son out of them for a while this summer (he's almost 2) because he pees SO much and runs around so much that he was getting rashes and leaking.

I bought about 24 of them, and that worked great for us. Even if you just buy 10-15 and supplement disposables when you need to, you will still save a ton of money. I plan on using them again full-time with my next child too.

I would definitely go with the one-sized, it saves having to guess what you'll need and then having diapers sit there unused after they grow out of them. I bought two and then tried them on my nephew at the time, and found they worked great - so I went ahead and got more. There was also a really helpful lady at a local store that was able to offer me advice, answer questions and more. If you can find someone that can help you and show you some of the options in person (you might have to call around to find a place that carries a few brands - usually they are more 'natural' baby stores) then that might help you come to a decision as well.
