Headlice, how do I get rid of them?

After ten years I have caught headlice. I went to my hairdressers on Monday for wash and blow dry and they were just sectioning after washing anf they found not very many, but they were there. I had to go home and get some nit lotion so I got Full marks solution which I have told you can only use once before they become ammune. I went to the nurse on the Tuesday who checked my hair and said she couldn't see any nits, but she did remove an empty shell. Now every time my hair itches i am scared to death that hey are back. Head lice are getting harder anfd harder to get rid of and I do have a dandruff problem which I would rather prefer then these horrid things. can you tell me if there's anything more I should do? I am registered disabled, and the only way I can get my hair washed is up the college hairdressers.

itchiness is psychological unless it is a major infestation. and you can use that solution more than once. resistance is not built after one go.

here is an answer i posted previously. i work in a chemists and we are having great success with a new product called Hedrin. It works by coating the lice in silicone and they cannot excrete water, so die. Apply properly once then again a week later.

Because it uses no pesticides, they cannot become resistant to it. Resistance is built up over generations - not after a single treatment. Each product HAS to be used two weeks (even three) in succesion to kill any hatched eggs.

But give hedrin a try - and get someone to do it for you, its impossible to treat yourself properly. Im presuming it hasnt been done properly and/or in two/three week succesions.

Anyway, have a read at my answer link below. And give Hedrin a try, ive used it on a family member and it works a treat. DONT be tempted to go for herbal or natural remedies. They dont work, simple.

Things to Consider before Going for Hair Loss Treatment

Losing hair is a very common problem among males and females but it is most prominent in males. It is a myth that wearing hat or helmet, using a wrong shampoo can cause baldness. While these may cause hair to break or change the texture, it can not be the reason for baldness.

 

Mostly hair loss is genetic though other factors like diet, age, hormones also cause people to loose hair. These factors do matter but genetic make up of a person decides greatly how much baldness he may experience in his life. It is found that 90 % hair loss is genetic and about 10 % is due to factors like stress, nutrition, age, medication, health, and hormones.

 

Both men and women produce male hormones, which is a major cause of baldness. These are testosterone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and andorsteinedione; of which DHT is the major cause of male pattern baldness.  For women, causes and pattern of loosing hair is different than in men. So, while women experience extensive thinning of hair all around; in men, hairline starts receding and thinning of hair can be seen at the crown of the head.

 

Nobody goes bald in a day; it is a very slow process which goes through stages. It starts with thinning hair and leads to losing hair and eventually to baldness. When it reaches the last stage, it is difficult to reverse the process of balding.

 

Genetic hair loss is called Androgenic alopecia which is hereditary male or female pattern baldness. The DHT hormone affects the growth of hair follicles, which begin producing short hair and ultimately these follicles die. The follicles most affected by DHT are found in front, top and crown of the head. Those present at the sides and lower head are not sensitive to this hormone, thus hair in these areas is more permanent.

 

Many hair loss treatments are available like drugs, lotions, hair restoration surgery but the cause of thinning hair or losing hair has to be determined first before taking any remedial measures. For example, if a medicine is causing you to loose hair, then a change in the prescribed medicine may prevent hair from falling further. Proven and FDA approved methods like finasteride, which is marketed as Propecia and monoxidil, can prevent loss of hair and also regrow hair. If no hair loss treatment is working then artificial hair transplant or hair weave is also an option. But before going for any kind of hair loss treatment, people should research the products and processes well.
