why do we wear makeup, tan, dye hair, etc?

I went to france and noticed all the women are so natural. They were no makeup, if not minimal amount, they don't have gross tans, no fake hair colours, everything is so natural and it was fresh. Im so used to girls piling on makeup and wearing sk.anky clothes and i never saw that in france. So whats with our cultural obsession with all of these "beauty enhancers"? To me it doesn't look nice at all. When you don't wear makeup and all that, it shows you are comfortable in your own skin and confident enough to not wear any.

I think it is the pressure to be perfect and the medias display of the ideal face and body, girls today just cannot escape the demands to be attractive or "hot" when its thrown at your face everywhere you look
