Generally speaking, why would the GOVT. be opposed to an AUDIT of the institution that prints the money?

The Federal Reserve is independent of the U.S. govt.

The law does not allow a full audit to be seen by the public.

When a bill to do an audit came up in the Senate, Democratic leadership blocked the bill from even being voted on.

So my question is (assuming the U.S. govt. isn't bankrupting the country on purpose) WHAT is a GOOD reason to block an audit of the ONE institution that could single handedly destroy the U.S. dollar??
