Tips for sunless tanning gels?

I'm really pale but don't want to damage my skin by sitting out in the sun. I tan if I do, but I don't think it's worth it.

I bought some sunless tanning gel. I understand why I need to be careful with some areas, but I'm not exactly sure what that means... I just want it to look as natural and normal as it possibly can.

Anyone have tips for how I can go about that?

I am also really pale and I hate to say it, but I don't think this product will work for you. You are right to not sit out in the sun, because it is bad to do it all the time. I'm sure sometimes is perfectly fine though. What they mean by some areas is your ankles and knees, elbows and wrists. It streaks very easily and you can look funny when the tan sets in if you aren't careful.

I say this product might not work because of my own experiences. You just can't have white skin and put on a dark tan without having some kind of streaks. I don't care what sponges, or gizmos you use....it's going to be streaky somewhere! I would say go ahead and try it once on your legs, but be prepared to wear long pants for a week just in case it looks funny.

My honest, best advice I can give you after years of being the pasty white-skinned girl people point at is this: Get L'Oreal's Sublime Glow for FAIR skin. It is a very very mild self-tanner and you won't even see a tan for two applications. It's such a mild color for us fair-skinned people that the streaking is minimized a lot. After about a week of applying it every day your skin color will have changed a shade or two darker. You're not going to have a brazilian goddess tan, BUT you won't be so pale anymore.
