Question about a red eared slider turtle?

My sons friend just got a red eared slider turtle & I was looking at it & I noticed around the turtles head & his feet was this cloudy, clearish looking "film" on him. What is it? I just worry about my kids bringing something home from handling this cute lil fellow. They do know to wash their hands after every handling. Thanks in advance!

Actually, that is the dead skin being shed by the turtle. It's completely normal for turtles to shed their skin, and even parts of their shell called scutes. Do not try to pull or scrub the dead skin off of the turtle because that could injure it.

Skin Shedding

Shedding is natural and normal for RES. Shedding skin has a thin, wispy and translucent appearance. Most often it is around the neck and the front and rear limbs. It is very easily visible underwater.

Handling Eczema Naturally

Eczema is different from acne. Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin. A skin condition that causes areas of the skin to become red, itchy and scaly.
