NEED IMMEDIATE HELP WITH CHEM HW. PLEASE HELP?

I'm stuck on these questions, it's due tomorrow, some please help explain?

"If you underfill a compressed air cylinder and then lay it on the dock under the sun, what will happen to pressure in the tank? Is this behaviour supported by the kinetic theory of matter? What will happen when the diver enters cooler waters?"

"On a warm day an amusement park balloon is filled with 4.78g of Helium. The temperature is 33C and pressure in the balloon is 2.25 atm. Calculate the volume of the balloon."

You need to study your lessons. Failure to master the material translates to failure to know how to do your homework. Failure to do the homework translates in failure to pass the test.

Let's consider the first problem.

Will an air cylinder temperautre rise or fall in the sun? You should know this. What will happen to the gas temperature inside the cylinder (if you cannot answer this you are in deep trouble since the gas temperature will become the same as the cylinder wall over time). Now you know whether the cylinder and the gas temp rises or falls. Look at the ideal gas law pV = nRT. With V, n and R all constant what will happen to p as the temp T rises and falls? Think it over and you have the answer. Part 2 of this question uses the same type of reasoning. It is time to exercise your mind on this.

Problem 2, use the ideal gas law pV = nRT. Note that we are not changing n or p because the baloon inside pressure is the same as the atmospheric pressure for the purposes of this problem; therefore V = nRT/p and since nR and p are constant, V = kT for this problem. Now you have two temps, T1 and T2 corresponding to volumes V1 and V2 and we can ration V1/V2 = kT1/kT2 or V1/V2 = T1/T2. It is time now to do a little algebra and once again exercise your mind.

Tropical Vacations - is Danger Lurking Under the Midday Sun?

Even though these three sun related medical problems, sunburn, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, are not diseases, they can be serious and could put a real damper on your vacation.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is especially true when dealing with the sun.  Remember that the sun's rays in the tropics are more intense between noon and three p.m. as well as at high altitudes, even if it's an overcast or cloudy day.

What can you do to prevent getting a sunburn?

In general, the fairer or lighter your skin is, the easier you may sunburn.  Even clouds offer little or no protection from a severe sunburn.  So why take a chance of ruining your holiday when getting a painful sunburn is easy to protect against?  To prevent getting a bad sunburn, especially if you sunburn easily, use a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30, or stronger if possible.  Use the sunscreen liberally, wear a wide-brimmed sun hat, choose UVA & UVB protection certified sunglasses, and wear a long-sleeved shirt and slacks.  Try to stay out of the sun between noon and three in the afternoon.  Build up your exposure to the sun gradually, day by day.  Limit the length of time that you spend in the sun to about fifteen minutes the first day, and increase your time in the sun gradually on subsequent days.

If you get a bad sunburn, what can you do to treat it?

You can ease the pain of a sunburn by soaking in a cool bath three to four times a day.  If you add some baking soda to each bath, it will help even more.  Cool showers will probably hurt too much, and they are not as effective or soothing as cool, relaxing baths.  To help with headaches, or pain and swelling, take aspirin or other pain medication such as Advil or Ibuprofen.  Do not take any aspirin based pain medications if you are on blood thinners or have an ulcer. If you are not sure if it's safe for you to take these pain relievers, check with a doctor or medical clinic.  To avoid dehydration, drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day.  Do not break any blisters if you can help it.  Broken blisters can easily get infected, especially in the humid weather of the tropics.  If they do break, wash them gently with soap and warm water.

If the sunburn doesn't appear to be healing and you are still in pain after a few days, you develop a very high temperature or fever, have a splitting headache that just won't go away, are vomiting or have diarrhea, feel dizzy or confused, or your eyes hurt and bright light bothers them, you need to see a medical professional immediately.

How can you prevent heat exhaustion?

Heat exhaustion is totally preventable.  To avoid this serious problem, wear a wide-brimmed sunhat, drink lots of liquids, and stay out of intense heat and humidity.

What should you do if you have the symptoms of heat exhaustion?

Heat exhaustion is caused by a combination of very high temperatures and humidity.  This may result in the loss of fluids from your body through excess sweating.  These fluids must be quickly replaced or heat exhaustion can result.

The usual symptoms include headache, lethargy, fatigue, giddiness, as well as muscle cramps.  The immediate treatment is to move out of the sun or heat and drink a lot of liquids, preferably commercial beverages containing electrolytes, such as Gatorade.  Do not drink alcohol as it will make your condition worse.

If you don't feel better and show positive signs of recovery within a very short period of time, have someone help you to get to a hospital or medical center immediately as your condition can easily progress into a true medical emergency called heatstroke.

What actions must you immediately take if you get heat stroke?

If heat exhaustion is not successfully treated immediately, it can result in a critical medical emergency.  Heatstroke is characterized by an extremely high body temperature of 102 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, or 39 to 41 degrees Centigrade.  There is a cessation of sweating.  The main  symptoms of heatstroke include a flushed, red skin, a bad headache, confusion which can quickly progress into delirium and convulsions, which can then be fatal.

Note:  Someone has to help you to get out of the sun or heat and rush you to a hospital immediately.
