Medical Phototherapy

Did you have a jaundiced newborn?
Most people think that jaundice is a disease, but truthfully it is simply a condition, meaning it is not usually problematic. A large percentage of newborns have the condition and mostly every one of them will lose it without any special treatment. In fact some studies have indicated that high levels of bilirubin may be beneficial to baby by binding toxins and eliminating them. I say all that to ask this, how many people were encouraged by medical staff to address jaundice with phototherapy, supplementing with formula, close monitoring, etc... I'm curious to know if this type of fear-mongering is as prevalent as I suspect.
i never thought of it as a big deal since all my doctor said was to open a window and let our baby lay in some sunlight. i never thought it was disease

Respironics BiliTx Phototherapy Homecare Package with Wrap Around Panel $3399.99 Features of the Respironics BiliTx Phototherapy Homecare Package: BiliTx™ provides a brighter future for infants with hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) and hope to anxious parents. This new phototherapy system from Children’s Medical Ventures places effective light therapy in the hands of clinicians and parents while delivering reliable business solutions to hospitals and home healthcare providers. BiliTx’s superior irradiance, low maintenance costs and dual therapy functions make it a reliable and effective phototherapy choice for the NICU, pediatrics and well-baby nursery. For clinicians, BiliTx can be configured as an overhead spotlight or connected to a fiber-optic panel in any hospital environment such as a crib or incubator. When used as an overhead spotlight, BiliTx does not transfer heat to the baby — unlike conventional halogen phototherapy devices that may require cooling fans and constant temperature regulation. When a fiber-optic panel is used in conjunction with an overhead spotlight, BiliTx’s versatility can provide high or intensive dual-surface phototherapy for the most severe hyperbilirubinemia cases. With BiliTx’s one-button operation and no-maintenance technology, parents will find treating their infant’s hyperbilirubinemia at home to be easy and reliable. BiliTx’s small size and light weight make the device easy to carry, transport and store. BiliTx is versatile and fits easily into a mother’s or caregiver’s hand while delivering treatment. Its parent-friendly sling, fiber optic panel and long cord make it easy to nurse, hold and even carry the baby without interrupting phototherapy. BiliTx delivers highly effective phototherapy through the use of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that meet the American Association of Pediatrics’ phototherapy guidelines. Children’s Medical Ventures’ blue LED technology delivers cool spotlight phototherapy that provides the neonate a stable thermal environment without the heat transfer that halogen phototherapy devices can generate. BiliTx delivers superior irradiance when used in the overhead spot configuration or through standard fiber optic panels. Includes: * Bilitx Top-Level Base Unit. * Bilitx Over the shoulder bag. * Apple Grey 3-Wire Power Cord. * Wrap around Fiber Optic Panel. * Professional Pannel. * Parents Manual. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sharp CV Medical Center
How can I determine my blood type?
I am unable to give blood, as I do not weigh enough, and have heard that you cannot find out from a doctor. I know it's not vital information but I guess, at 25 years old, I'm just curious!
I've been reading up about ABO blood type incompatibility. When I was born, I was jaundiced from day one for about ten days and had phototherapy. My mother is O+ and my father is B- so I was wondering if I could possibly be the same as my Dad, or whether I would have had to have more extreme medical attention if I was indeed B? Unless I fall pregnant or suddenly put on half a stone, I suppose I'll have to keep guessing!
Also, if Dad is B- and Mum is O+, would I inherit exactly the same rhesus factor or could I be B+ or O-...?
Thanks in advance for any advice
http://www.biology.arizona.edu/human_bio/problem_sets/blood_types/Intro.html
is a good website i belive they hae a blood type calcutaler
every one takes a blood type from each parent
type A really is type AO
so if you have an B and an O
you will either get the o from mom and dad and be OO or you will get the B from dad and o from mom making you type B (ob)
an with the rh factor (-or+) you could be either....a parent who is - can only give a - to their child where as a parent who has a + can give a + or a negative and a person is either -,- or they are -,+
positive being dominate so if mom gave you he poitive nad da gave you a neg then you will be neg, but if mom gave you her neg, and dad gave you his neg, then you will be neg.
this is a really good website, i have it on my favorites list.
you would be either B or O +or- sorry that it isn't more narrow then that.
