Does spray-on flea treatment work well for medium hair cats?

I just got my first cat; his name is Duke and I love him dearly. I need to get him on a flea treatment. I know the topical skin treatments work well, but will the Frontline spray treatment penetrate his fur well enough to repel and kill fleas and ticks. I ask this because I'm trying to be economical, and it looks as if I would save an astronomical amount of money if I used the spray.

The cats I've had in the past get really scared of the hissing aerosol sprays and end up biting and clawing you. I would think the topical treatments are your best bet. Have a chat to your local veterinary nurse and she will be able to advise you on whats best. You can get advice over the counter without actually making an appointment to see anyone. They are not as expensive as you might think and they do work well with minimum fuss.
