Shadows of myself, others in my life,
overlapping edges, reflected on a knife.
Shadows of the hurt, and shadows of the pain,
reflections of myself, formerly sane.
Shadows of the past, from memories old,
translucent people, too free to be bold.
Shadows of my past, present and future too,
but the only ones I care about are the shadows of you.
Dark and translucent, something to see,
overlapping figures of you and me.
Nights we spent together, inseperable we were,
light streaks of hope, barely there yet so sure.
So many shadows of things I've never done,
beauty unseen, unrevealed the setting sun.
So lay together shadows, and show someone formally known,
as a sane person, now gone and all alone.

You know I am usually really critical about Y.A. poetry because there is so few good ones, but I happen to REALLY like this. The language flows without sounding "heavy;" the parallelism of some lines improves the effect and it begins at the end- perfect for Poe's philosophy of composition!
