does vitamin E help stop sunburn?

i am going on holiday to jamaica in a few weeks and i want to get a tan but get sunburn easily someone told me that taking vitamin E before i go on holiday will stop me burning is it true?

and is there any other ways i can help stop sunburn without resorting to factor 40 sun lotion?

No the storage and taking of vit E will not stop sunburn ( a radiation burn to the epidermis layer underneath the dermis layer of skin), it does help with the healing process and can help maintain healthy skin under the burn.

Vitamin E - What it can do for your complexion!

Vitamin E has been known for its ability to reverse the natural aging of the skin.  Vitamin E is a natural vitamin that can be found in most of our diets.  A 2006, MSNBC report say declining levels of vitamin E in the skin are associated with wrinkles - as stated by D. Davis in her article, "Uses of Topical Vitamin E Oil."

The benefit of the use of Vitamin E is substantial due to its antioxidant and anti-aging activity.  Most skin creams contain Vitamin E -  listed as:  alpha-tocopheryl acetate. 

Vitamin E helps the skin maintain its natural oil and balance when used in cleansing lotions,  This in effect,  assist in reducing the amount of water through the skin which causes wrinkles and signs of aging.

Vitamin E possess strong powerful antioxidant properties which help reduce or prevent sun damage.  Vitamin E has been known to heal heal burns and scaring.
