In your opinion, is it unattractive for a woman with fair skin to NOT be tan?

I have pretty fair skin (especially my legs) and I stay out of the sun a lot because I don't want wrinkles, skin cancer, and the sun really doesn't tan me, I just freckle a lot.

I don't like the smell or the look of the fake tans, either. Should I just deal with the smell for the sake of looking good? My husband likes my skin either way but prefers natural tones. I don't want to look like a freak at the lake though.

I need some honest opinions here from people who don't know me.

I have a fair skinned friend who works too much to get sun and doesn't go out in it IF she had the chance. I wish I could start all over with my skin the way YOU are now--with the skin I was born with before I burned it all those years in the sun.

I'll bet you look ma-ve-lus, dahling.

Truly--it is attractive.. I would love to know I stood out in a crowd with pretty skin, ya know?

Why are some white girls willing to die to get tan?

i have so many white girlfriends and my school is predominantly white..it seems like 60-70 percent of the white girls i know personally go tanning on a regular basis. one of my friends n i were talking about it in class and she said "omg i need to go tanning, i havent been in two days"...and i was like what the f.uck? - youre a skin cancer disaster waiting to happen. seriously though - IM BLACK AND SHE IS PRETTY MUCH AS DARK AS I AM. not to mention that lighter skin ages quicker partly because its more vulnerable to visible sun damage (uva rays) than darker skin....i dont get it....why dont they just go get a spray on tan. i convinced my bf (hes obsessed w/ being tan) to get a professional spray on and it turned out great but it was really expensive. they have lotion that gradually tans as well..and pale skin is just as beautiful as dark skin...i dont get it - are you TRYING to die? or do you just want even more wrinkles when youre 40? its a mystery...i dunno. whatever.

I'm really pale and I would love to be tan. However, I would rather be pale than have skin cancer. So instead of baking in a tenning bed I usually just use self tanner and for special occasions I go airbrush tanning - which btw is awesome! I understand why people want to be tan because it makes you look so much better (imo), and it even has a slimming effect. What I don't understand is why people would risk their life to become tan :S. Whatever, people are stupid. You have no idea how many times I've heard "yeah, yeah we're all going to die of some type of cancer, might as well look good." WTF? :S
