How to get a browner, less orange tan from a booth?

In the sun, I have a nice, all around brown bronzey tan. I've gone to a stand up booth 10 times and i feel like instead of being tan, i'm orange. I didn't use any tanning lotions and I feel like that was a mistake. Do tanning lotions make you brown instead of orange? Is there a special type of booth I should look out for instead of a "regular" booth? I like the stand up booths because they give a nice, even, all around tan. But I don't want to be orange! I want to be brownish, bronze... anything but orange! My makeup and everything is off, too. What do I do? Any lotion reccomendations?
