how long should i lay out?

i have a natural olive skintone with yellow undertones but unless i tan outside i am actually pretty pale.
lately i have been laying out for about 30 minutes and slowly but gradually i've been getting tanner.
i usually lay on a float in the pool rather than just on a towel or something, i heard the water reflecting and all makes the sun stronger or something.

should i increase the time now to get even tanner or leave it how it is now? i've been doing 30 minutes for a few weeks.
and yes i'm aware that if you tan too much that you'll get skin cancer but it's not like i tan indoors religiously or anything.
the tanning helps to sort of ease my depression
it is actually scientifically proven to help with depression so do some research please
