what are the steps I need to take to get tan... not orange or super dark... just a nice tan.
I'll burn in the sun if I'm not wearing sunscreen.
I'm not in a hurry to get tan.
I don't need the most expensive tanning bed, the cheaper the better I guess. but I still want it to be somewhat of a nice bed.
I bought tanning suntan lotion last summer and never used it. can I use it in the tanning bed? how much are those eye things?

is there anything else I need to go tanning?

As far as you burning in the sun, you'll prob burn in the bed at first. Start out doing about 10 mins or so in the standard beds at your local salon, see how that feels and with each visit, if you don't burn, you can up the amout of time each visit. There are stronger and bigger beds, but you won't be ready for them for quite sometime, if you do burn easily. For example the "stand-up" beds, which tan your face and upper body, have an 11 min limit on them, which is equivelent to 30 mins in a standard "lay down" bed.
~As far as your lotion, if its outdoor lotion it will do no good indoors and prob isn't allowed anyway, b/c it may damamge the acrylic overlays on the beds. You can buy some indoor lotion online (like australian gold or sweedish beauty brands) and they have just accelerators or bronzers, and then there's tingle, which a lot of people can't do, it feels like razor burn for a while after tanning (b/c it opens the pores)
~Eye wear ranges from 3 to 6 dollars, some salons have "wink-ese" which are disposable stick on eye wear for 25 cents each pair.
