Suntan Supplies

I am kinda thinking about doing a "survivorman" type of thing.Would these be the right supplies?

i read hatchet and watch survivorman. It all looks so beautiful. Now not now or maybe even never, but i might someday want to try that. Of course, i would bring alot of equipment. Finding food would be the only challenge. Like i said before though, i am probably never gonna try this.

Would this be a good "safe" list?

A sleeping bag
a two person tent
a bag of plastic forks
two pans and two pots
a thing of matches and a lighter
two bottles of insect repellent
suntan lotion
a fishing kit

I am not a camper or survivor man buff, but I did grow up in a wilderness. So here are some ideas ...

You can't just come up with a list and expect it to all just fall into place. The list has to be made to fit the trip. Much of what you take with you is determined by what you can carry. If you are comfortable with a 40 pound pack then that two person tent might not be a good idea.

Right off I see the problem with the plastic forks ... why can't you eat with your fingers?

I liked the insect repellent ... but two bottles?

Suntan lotion is only useful under specific conditions, proper clothing would be a better choice

Why two pans and pots?

The fishing kit is a good idea (assuming you are in a place with fish).

The guys on the survivor shows have perfected their abilities over years of practice, and all those trips are well planned and thought out.

If I were going to try the survivor man stuff I would start by taking some kind of class. Then I would go on weekend trips with a guide or class or team, After learning how to make it as a group then, work up to a solo trip. Over time of course you can make your trip longer and more complex.

From my (limited) experience I would want a knife, with it I can make things like a fork. Also if you have a choice water is a good thing to take with you. The stuff in the wild isn't safe without some kind of treatment. A first aide kit is also essential. This might sound silly, but a good cell phone would be essential to my way of thinking. Just last year some hikers were stranded on Mt Hood (in Oregon) and the thing saved them (I mean from death) was being able to call for help.
