why is my skin dry after tanning?

i have been going to the tanning salon for a month now and go about every other day. i always shower before I tan and use tanning lotions and tan extenders to make the tan last longer. now it seems that my skin is a lot more dry then before I started tanning. am i doing something wrong? is there any special lotions or soaps i should use so my tan will last longer and keep my skin hydrated?
