im going on vacation in about 5 weeks or so, and im white-ish. I'm norweigen &italian so im naturally tan, but its not as dark on my stomach, back and legs. I want to try a tanning bed but i've never done it and i don't know how long to stay in, what to wear, or how many times you have to do it. I already know the risks of it so you don't have to waste your time explaining them. so if you have experience w. them or anything, advice would be appreciated
you definatey should tan because otherwise you are just going to burn your skin anyway. There is nothing wrong with tanning beds as long as you use them in moderation. The first thing you need to do is getting a tanning lotion to moisturize your skin before jumping into the tanning bed. If you go into a tanning bed you only accept about half of the UV rays from the lights because the rays bounce off your dry skin. A moisturized area will also tan about twice as much as a dry area...plus you get nicer more even color. When picking out a lotion make sure that the one you buy does NOT have mineral oil in it because this actually dries out your skin more than moisturizing it. Start out at a low amount of time...if you have 5 weeks then time doesn't matter right now because within about 2 weeks you should be at a much greater time. Start slow, DON'T burn yourself because then it's like starting all over for your skin. You will lose all your tan and it takes twice as long to tan burnt skin. Ask the tanning salon people how many watts their bulbs are....they should know how long you should be able to go into the tanning bed without getting burnt. Don't tell them that you can handle a lot of time ifyou can't because then you are wasting your money and time because of burning yourself. If they put you in for too much time then just get out early....don't stay in the whole time just because you want to get your monies worth. Most people tan naked but some feel more comfortable with underwear or a swimsuit on. To get a nice tan I would suggest going at least 3 times a week. If you are tanning nicely then maybe do a little more. If you go less than 3 times a week then there is a chance that you will lose the color that you are trying to acheive. Good luck.
