I'm pretty sure the oil stuff damages your skin and probably can give you skin cancer. Buut I used jergens during the winter and it looked great! Just make sure you use lotion before you put it on so it will go on smoothly. And don't put too much on your ankles/knees

can you still get a tan from the sun if your wearing self tanning lotion?
i was just wondering because i know last summer whenever i wore foundation my face wouldnt get tan.......does self tanner do the same thing? will your body not get sun tanned?

Yes, you can get tan even if you wear something with SPF. Sunscreen and products with sunscreen tends to wear off or get sweated off. So re-apply often.
Think you are on the right track with trying to prevent your skin from aging prematurely. =)
Maybe try finding a facial moisturizer with SPF (Olay Complete makes one with SPF 30) or a facial sunscreen.
