Do a sunless tanner- your best bet would be to use the one by Jergens that gives you a tan gradually because it looks more natural and not orange. Then invest in a bronzer for your face as well

Going to our local salon or a fancy upscale spa, the one thing that makes us return is the service. I, like many other women, like to have a little color in the winter and, of course, go to a tanning salon to accomplish that. I have been on both sides of the counter. I fondly remember my time as a receptionist at a local tanning salon. Whether my clients had to only wait 5 min or came in the salon 15 min early, I always strived to satisfy their every need. I offered them a drink, made sure they didn't need any supplies or just asked them how the family was.
I noticed that one of the most important things when managing a tanning salon is to train one's staff in the proper cleaning procedures. Granted cleaning a tanning bed is not a hard job, but you need to clean it after every use. There have been many complaints that I have heard from friends who use a salon and it is dirty. Not only does the bed have to be cleaned every time, including the head pillow and booth handle, you also have to clean the mirrors, door knobs, chairs, provide clean goggles etc. It seemed like I walked around with three bottles all the time: sanitizer for the tanning beds, Windex for the mirrors accompanied by a squeegee and rag, as well as a bottle of all purpose cleaner for the handles and top of the tanning bed. The cleaning has to be done after every single use whether it looks like it needs it or not.
Another thing I noticed is that there should be a vast variety of tanning products available to the clients. Sometimes a client cannot use a specific product due to allergies, or dislikes the smell, feel or even design of a particular item. We all know that these products are not cheap, but different clients have different needs and a tanning salon should keep lots of different products in stock.
I always kept a bottle of a new lotion available to give clients a sample in those little plastic cups. Keep track of who you give samples to because some clients like to take advantage of your generosity and keep taking samples. If you find that a client keeps requesting a sample politely explain that you have the product on the shelf and offer it to them - apparently they like the product or they wouldn't keep asking for samples. I understand some clients do not bring extra money with them, especially if they bought a tanning package. In some cases, I would just put their name on the bottle and a note on their card in regards to their purchase. Then either when making their next appointment or while making reminder calls, I would let them know they still had a product that needs to be paid for. If at their next appointment they still don't pay, I remind them again that they have to pay for the product or unfortunately they will not be able to use the services we are offering them.
