Hi Everyone, I got a new Tattoo last Friday, 5/30 in NY. It was a 5 hour session with lots of shading.?

It's on my lower leg, shine/side of the calf area, it's the first time I've ever gotten one in that area.

We'll it's been 1 week, and the back of my calf is still red. I read it could be the lotion (aftercare) stuff I was using so I stopped using it last night, let everything sit over night as all the internet instructions told me to do and I started using Lubriderm this morning.

My calf doesn't hurt when I touch it, nor is it hot to the touch, it does not have any red strecks, etc... the skin is just blochy red and sometimes tingles a little when I put new lotion on.

I've heard that tattoo's in this area can take up to 2-3 weeks for the redness to fully go away. Should I go see a doctor or should I give it another week?

I have 4 other tattoo's and have never experienced this, so thought I would ask.

A 5 hour session with lots of shading says it all. The more your artist runs the needles through your skin... the longer the healing process takes.

You could possibly have bruising deep underneath the skin from pushing and pulling. Is the aftercare ointment the same you had used for your other tattoos??
Could it be a slight reaction to the soap you're using?
Also, are you wearing pants or other tight fitting clothing... even something as simple as getting your leg wrapped up in the sheets at night can irritate the living shit out of your healing skin.

If it's only been one week and there are no signs of infection i would allow a couple more weeks before questioning a doctor. But if you're still uneasy about it, give your tattoo artist a call...
