I need advice on dying my hair blonde?

Okay. So my hair is a medium brown color with a slight red tint (only in the sun)
and it hasnt been dyed since september of 2009.
EXCEPT on monday, this lady put some blonde highlights in my hair, but only in the top layers, not underneath.
BUT now I want all of my hair in the top layers to be blonde, and leave the underneath brown.

but the lady said she cant dye it anymore without going in between the foils, and is wanting to charge me a fortune!

I was wondering, If I could do this myself.
At home.
I know I would need a blue-based blonde color to eliminate the red.
And I know the top layers of my hair are by far the healthiest, because they're shorter, and are trimmed often.
Plus I use good protein shampoo/conditioner
and I have some redken conditioner that I leave in over night once a week.
I take good care of my hair.
I just want it blonde.

I have dyed my Hair black twice and dyed it brown a few times and it was so difficult trying to get it back to blonde, i would suggest a hair dresser because they know how to do it with minimum damage to your hair but if you are going to do it at home then use a hair dye that is nourishing because your hair can really start to dry out and break off.

Also don't try and dye your hair as light as the girl in the photo straight away because you will have to bleach it most likely. It will do less damage if you can get your hair a bit lighter first, meaning you won't have to leave the bleach on as long.
