Why in movies, yellow tinted glasses are frequently used when driving, shooting range?

In the movies, it is frequently observed that yellow tinted glasses are used when driving at night and at the shooting range as a eye protection. Why chose this tint? Wouldn't clear transparent be good protection for shooting? Why use any protection when driving at night, and yellow tint?

Yellow lenses (sometimes called shooters lenses) provide a clear contrast between objects and the background behind them (like the sky). They block out some of the blue light that is responsible for creating blurriness in the atmosphere.

I do not recommend using any tinted glasses at night. The thing about yellow lenses increasing visual acuity at night is a total bunk. Any tint on lenses at night actually reduces the distance one can see. So, a 15 percent tint lets in 15% less light and therefore, if you can see 200 feet in front of you while driving at night, you would only be able to see 15% less or 170 feet. That could be dangerous. The only "tint" that I recommend for night driving is anti reflective coating which allows More light to pass through the lenses and therefore increases visual acuity.
